I quit reading Xtreme, New, & Uncanny a few months ago. Xtreme's dialogue was horrible, New didn't feel like X-Men, even though it was good, and Uncanny...*sigh*.

Now I'm starting to catch up, reading them online. New is good. I like it...and it started to feel like an X-Book again, finally. It's not the best thing I've read recently, but it's decent.

I'm up to number 5 of Xtreme...the dialogue is still just comepletly horrible. The art is the only thing saving it at all and half the time the proportions stink. Getting glad I don't waste my money on this.

I haven't read any more of Uncanny yet...I can only hope that it's not as bad as I remember, although I haven't heard any of you say anything good about it yet, so I'm not holding my breath.

    Okay. That's my update/rant.

you should read the Uncanny Annual... it's GREAT! but if you are not into abstract/surreal type art... it may not be for you as Ashley Wood painted it. i liked the art, but it is not for everyone... but Caseys writing was really good. he handled the drug theme very well, added a new spin on an old villain, i personally think he handled the whole mutant envy thing(you know, humans wanting mutant powers) much better than Morrison with those silly U-Men.

then agian i never thought Uncanny was that bad to begin with... if you dropped it before 399 tho, i can understand. but it got better. really. never minding 401... cool developments but it desperately needed words. ok so that's not sying much, but i do really like where things are headed.

Agreed the annual was really good. And as Nocturne states this is a very abstract Ashley Woods style, more so than what was done in UX#398. If not for some of the dialogue I would not have know who some of the characters were. That being said it did add a very dark element to the story.

The story was good, Casey's handling of the characters seemed better, but the art did help the story, so I might be a bit biased here. I hope this just marks a turning point for Uncanny, towards the better.

BAMFCENTRAL I agree with you and NOCTURNE 100%
I was actually surprised at how much I liked this annual. WOODS' style reminds me very much of the old New Mutants artist BILL SIENCEWICZ.
Although almost startlingly sketchy at times it served the dark nature of the story really well.

    MINI SPOILERS!

Loved Bobby and Wolvies interaction and dialogue. (Come to think of it i'm enjoying Iceman's interaction and dialogue with everyone in Uncanny.)
It was also really nice seeing Nightcrawler coming to the aid of an incapacitated and helpless Wolverine for a change! smile
Not to mention the obvious respect that Nightcrawler commands from his teammates and other guest stars throughout
    the book.
I'm starting to get the feeling that Casey really is a big Nightcrawler fan with a lot of Claremont/Davis Excalibur in his personal collection!

you said it, that is one thing about Casey i really like, his dialogue is very natural (cept for the church of humanity guys...) and Bobby is especially well written. i think Iceman is kinda like Casey's alter ego in the books, i have a feeling that how Bobby acvts andtalks is very much how Joe acts and talks.

his Nightcrawler is not quite there yet, but is getting better, and from your excalibur comments i think you are right. also i think Casey is having the same problem that writers (except Kipiniak) have had recently - he doesn't know what to do with him as a priest. i have a feeling Casey is not a religious man, and liked Nightcrawler best before that unfortunate character development. (come on, he said himself he wanted to sex up the x-men, yet he puts a priest on his team?) and that is why i have a very strong suspician that half the reason the Church of Humanity is there at all is to have an excuse for Kurt to ditch the priesthood.

agreed with all, the annual was a cut above the stuff Marvel has been throwing at us lately. Loved the art! (especially the last page, heh) There may yet be hope for Casey too.
You gotta respect a writer with the guts to give Wolvie a buzz cut. (and then it turns out the guy has a power for making his hair grow. I bet his hairdresser is very happy) And despite better judgment, I like Stacy. Also, kudos for digging up that old baddie.
